In Melbourne, Lewis Hamilton got into hot water over his after-hours driving. Now he is again under the spotlight because he had had his ears pierced.

He had them pierced last week while in Los Angeles to see his girlfriend Nicole Scherzinger perform on a dance television show, but when they were spotted in Istanbul a few troublemakers were quick to point out the FIA rules state “the wearing of jewellery in the form of body piercing or metal neck chains is prohibited”.

But the FIA was quick to play down the affair, saying it had "no concerns" about the ear studs worn by Hamilton.
